The checks that matter

Most catering disappointments in Pune come from three things: food cooked hours earlier somewhere else, too few counters for the guest count, and dietary requirements treated as an afterthought. Every question below is worth asking before you sign.

  • Will the food be cooked at the venue or transported cooked?
  • How many chefs and stewards will actually be on site?
  • How are Jain, satvik and vegan lines kept separate?
  • Is there a tasting before final payment?
  • Who handles clearance and waste after service?
  • Is GST invoicing available if a company is paying?

A pure vegetarian spread that does not feel like a compromise

A pure vegetarian booking means the whole event is vegetarian, not that a vegetarian section sits at one end of a mixed buffet. For those events we run a vegetarian-only kitchen line, vegetarian-only equipment and vegetarian-only transport.

Eggs are the item people forget: they turn up in bakery, mousses and mayonnaise long after the mains have been checked. Everything below is eggless.

  • Starters: Paneer tikka and hara bhara kebab from the live tandoor
  • Starters: Dahi ke kebab and corn seekh
  • Starters: Chaat counter — pani puri, ragda pattice, bhel
  • Mains: Paneer butter masala, dal makhani, malai kofta
  • Mains: Sev tameta, seasonal shaak, Punjabi chole
  • Mains: Sealed dum veg biryani with mirchi ka salan
  • Live counters: Dosa and idli with fresh-ground batter, pasta, pav bhaji
  • Breads and rice: Tandoori roti, laccha paratha, jeera rice
  • Desserts: Eggless patisserie, gulab jamun, live jalebi and rabdi
  • Desserts: Mithai counter and matka kulfi

What this service typically costs in Pune

Per-plate pricing is driven by four things: the number of dishes, the number of live counters, the service style (buffet, plated or passed) and the guest count. Venue distance beyond Pune-Pimpri-Chinchwad or Lonavala adds a logistics line, and premium proteins or imported cheese move the number up.

These are the bands we quote inside the Pune belt — ₹450–₹2,200 per plate end to end — and they are the same bands quoted on every other page of this site. GST is added on the invoice and is not included in the figures below.

  • Simple vegetarian buffet, single cuisine: ₹450–₹800 per plate — Pooja lunches, satvik and Jain thali service, office vegetarian menus
  • Mixed veg and non-veg buffet, two live counters: ₹900–₹1,400 per plate — House parties, birthdays, smaller receptions
  • Wedding or reception spread, five to eight counters: ₹1,400–₹2,200 per plate — Full wedding service with dessert bar and paan counter
  • Grazing table styling: ₹18,000–₹65,000 — Quoted per station by length and produce, not per plate — the one booking we take under 100 guests
  • Corporate daily lunch contracts: lower per head than event catering, billed monthly with GST invoicing

What the rate covers, and what it does not

Every figure on this page comes from one price list, so the band quoted here is the band quoted on every other page of this site.

One live counter per 75 guests is the planning rule behind these bands, and each counter clears 75-100 guests per hour per counter. Distance beyond Pune-Pimpri-Chinchwad or Lonavala adds a travel line.

Logistics, timings and venue rules across the Pune belt

Pune venues are strict about load-in windows, lift access, gas cylinders and open-flame counters. We survey the venue before the event, confirm what the society or hotel allows, and design the counter layout around it.

Panchgani to Mahabaleshwar is a good example. Destination weddings and resort celebrations in the hill-station belt south of Pune — Panchgani, Mahabaleshwar, Wai and Satara — with our chefs, counters and equipment travelling up from Pune for every event.

Our standard run is four hours on site before service for buffets and six hours for a full wedding spread, with service staff at one steward per 25 guests for buffets and one steward per 12 guests for plated service. Everything is cleared and the space handed back clean before the team leaves.

  • Venue recce and counter layout plan before the event date
  • Live counters where open flame is permitted; induction and pre-seared alternatives where it is not
  • Separate vegetarian, Jain and satvik lines with dedicated utensils
  • FSSAI-compliant kitchen, temperature logs and covered transport
  • Full clearance, waste removal and venue handover after service

How a pure vegetarian booking is kept pure

For a pure vegetarian event the kitchen line, the equipment, the oil, the fryer and the transport crates are vegetarian only, and no non-vegetarian item is prepped in that section on the same day. That is a different commitment from a mixed event with a vegetarian counter, and it is worth stating in the contract either way.

Eggs are checked separately from meat. All bakery, mousse, mayonnaise and ice cream on a pure vegetarian menu is eggless, and desserts are set with agar rather than gelatin. Cheeses are checked for animal rennet.

Pan-Asian dishes are the quiet risk: fish sauce, oyster sauce and shrimp paste are standard in commercial versions and are excluded from ours. Every counter carries a green-dot label so guests can read the dish rather than ask.

  • Vegetarian-only kitchen line, oil, fryer, vessels and transport crates
  • Eggless bakery, mousse, mayonnaise and ice cream
  • Agar instead of gelatin; cheeses checked for animal rennet
  • No fish sauce, oyster sauce or shrimp paste in any pan-Asian preparation
  • Green-dot labelling on every counter
  • Jain and satvik sub-lines available within the vegetarian kitchen on request

Who is answering this question

Welcome Caterers is a multi-cuisine catering company operating across the Pune Metropolitan Region — Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Hadapsar-Kharadi, the Lonavala-Khandala belt and Panchgani-Mahabaleshwar. The kitchen cooks more than 25 cuisines, runs live counters and grazing tables at the venue, and caters events from 100-guest celebrations to 50,000-guest weddings and corporate functions, with a grazing table the one booking taken under 100 guests.

Everything below is written from our own operating experience in Akurdi, Ravet, Pimple Nilakh, Talegaon Dabhade and the rest of the Pune belt, not from generic industry copy. If you want this applied to your own date and guest count, call +91 96731 98867 and we will send a written per-plate quote the same day.

How to book, and how far ahead

Peak dates need six to ten weeks: October to February weddings and the Diwali corporate season. Everything else is usually comfortable at two to three weeks, and we do take short-notice bookings when the kitchen has capacity.

The sequence is simple: share date, venue and guest count; we send a written per-plate quote the same day; we arrange a tasting for confirmed enquiries; you finalise the menu and spice levels after tasting; we do a venue recce and lock the counter plan.

  • Call or WhatsApp +91 96731 98867 with date, venue and headcount
  • Written per-plate quote the same day
  • Tasting session before you pay in full
  • Venue recce and counter layout confirmation
  • Setup, live service and full clearance on the day
  • Short-notice bookings taken when the kitchen has capacity
